Acting books are the best resources to start building your  acting career. Thousands of young actors don’t know where to start or are stuck in the way to become an actor. It’s important to start questioning yourself about what are your preferences about acting, whether you want be acting in a film, Television, commercial or theatre. By narrowing your choices, you will have a clear understanding of what you want and where you’re going.  I suggest you start looking for the best acting books in the industry, I can give you some recommendations that you would like to read:

  • The Art of Acting is a recopilation of 22 lessons by Stella Adler , where is shown at her strongest. Her reputation precedes her if you know that she was a acting coach of faomous actors like Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro.
  • One of the best classic acting books is An Actor Prepares by Constatin Stanislavski, a great russian teacher, and director. This is a teaching book written in story format. The lessons are inside the story and there are many topics that are treated like movement and focus. You can be considered as one of the students of the story that will progress as the book develops. If you’re an actor or want to become one , this is a must have!
  • Another great book written by Meisner and Longwell, is Sandford Meisner On Acting , this book tells you what techniques Meisner, one of the most influential teachers, practice and used in all his acting career .

Finally, a book that stands for a blueprint for actors , it was written by the renown actress Uta Hagen, called Respect for Acting. This book contains a series of exercises to help the actor do just that. The way she perceives acting is transmitted through the whole book.

These books are going to be your best teachers while you keep learning your acting career. Some of them are guidelines and others probably are going  to change the way you see life. In the end, what matters is what you do with the knowledge you acquired, so I suggest while you start your acting classes, get one of the books, read through the whole chapters and start applying some of the techniques taught when the time and play is the appropriate, by doing this and following the instructions of your teacher , you’re going in the direction to build a solid acting knowledge and this will help you to gain confidence when you go to an audition, remember put in practice all what you learned, if you don’t do it, is like you haven’t read anything, perseverance and training are the key factors to make your career a successful journey.

Exchange ideas and ask opinions  from your friends in the acting school, or someone close to the acting industry, you can use acting forums too. This feedback will help you to develop your acting skills faster and correct any mistakes you’re making but you haven’t realized.  And always keep in mind, read, study and put in action what you learn, this is the best way to have the best result in your acting career.
